New Year Fireworks @ The MINES 2007 with D80

After attending a wedding dinner at Overseas Restaurant, PGRM Cheras, me and my girlfriend went over to Seri Kembangan to watch fireworks. Luckily we managed to make it an hour and a half earlier. So, we took a walk around the celebration area. There were quite a lot of people at the concert area. We tried to look for a spot where I can take photographs of the fireworks. As we sat down, I noticed a staff of The MINES was sitting beside me. So, to be sure that I am focusing at the right direction of the fireworks, I asked him "ada fireworks kah malam ni?" and he replied "ada....kat sana" while pointing towards the MINES Business Park. I looked at my watch *damn* It is just 11 pm. So, we walked to the Beach and Spa Resort. We were taking a rest at the lobby before going back to the spot where I met the staff. Before we reach the spot, there were already sound of explosion nearby. We saw fireworks display at a distance and I guessed that should be from Bukit Jalil. Is it 12 o'clock already? But why no fireworks in Seri Kembangan? After a minute or so, at a sudden, the sky again filled with colorful firework display. Took a few shots with the D80 attached to a D70 kit lens, and mounted it on a manfrotto tripod. This is the first time, I am shooting fireworks with my own DSLR using the manual mode - that means i control the shutter speed and aperture. I was enjoying pressing the shutter and after the fireworks, I look at the LCD and zoom in the photographs. *sigh* blur!!!!! and then I realised, I had switched the focus to manual earlier.

Flood in Melaka Tengah 21 December 2006

This morning, me and my girlfriend rushed back to Melaka. We received news that her house is affected by the flood that hit the state. Since her house is located next to Sungai Malim, it is easily flooded when the water in the river overflows. I avoided the usual road from Alor Gajah and took the exit at Ayer Keroh instead as I do not want to go through the flooded zone. From Ayer Keroh, the road is still alright but as soon as we reached Batu Berendam and towards Malim, some areas can be seen affected by the flood. I was about to take the usual turning to Malim, but the road was blocked so I had to use another road to enter. When we reached the residential area, I had to parked my car few hundred meters away because some part of the road leading to her house is flooded.

'CHA' on D70 top indicator

I was shooting a camping activity in the park with the D70 (with 1GB Kingston CF) and suddenly the shutter jammed! I look at my camera and checked on the LCD screen and the top indicator. everything is normal except that remaining balance of shots was replaced by 'CHA'. I took out the battery and put it back in again. I was able to shoot again but just for a few shots and it happened again! So i decided to put the D70 aside and pull out the D80 from my bag. I was so frustrated when I can't event zoom-in the pix taken in the D70. When I tried to upload the CF card into the notebook with a card reader, some of the filenames looked weird. The usual JPG extension is shown as JHP or something like that. I received a message saying error reading from media and that means i can't upload it into the hard disk!!!!!

I inserted a 512MB CF (with some pix inside) into the D70 and tried a few clicks. Then I inserted it into the card reader for uploading. *sigh* it happened on the 512MB. I can't believe this! Searched through the internet and found out that a few other D70 owners also experienced this and one solution was to format the CF card in the PC (and select FAT) then format again in the camera. I will try with the 1GB Kingston but will leave the 512MB as it is, just to show it to Nikon this Saturday (16/12/2006)

Bought a D80 to replace D70

I don't exactly remembr the actual date which I bought the D80 but should be before 28 October 2006 because that is the day when I brought my D80 for a test in the paddy field in Melaka. I love this camera. D70 is still being used but as a backup mainly for assignment and letting my girlfriend to use it when we go out to the field together.

Denny & Sim Yee's Wedding Day / Dinner 29th October 2006

I was given an opportunity to cover denny & simyee's wedding on 29/10/2006. This time around it is a morning-til-night assignment. Very tiring and challenging. Batteries went dead during morning session! Have to remind myself next time to carry more batteries in the bag. Since I just bought a new D80 and a Tokina 12-24mm, I use it along with the D70 + 18-70mm lens. That means 2 cameras to cover the day.

50mm reversed lens with +4 closeup filter

Since getting the 50mm lens and the reversed adapters, this is the 3rd time I'm using it. For today, I tried it with a +4 closeup filter. First photo shows the chinese writing on my ring with the closeup filter while the second photo taken with the filter. I tried this at night so the lighting was not bright enough. I pushed the ISO to 1600.
